February 2016

I really need to post more often... every time I come to this blog it takes me forever to remember/reset my password and figure out where to go to be able to post - which is getting rough on the old brain cells!  lol

Life is good; I'm so blessed!

two posts in one year! and blogger has changed....

I don't know if this post will show up where I want it to, with my BlogSpot posts... anyway,  I've been a quilting crazy woman these last couple of weeks...  I am waiting for two quilts to come back from my friend, Mary in SC, and from a new longarmer I found here in Aquia Harbour, Sharyn Drollenger.  The first quilt is for Bobby and Theresa's wedding on 8/2, and the second is for Aunt Jeannine and Uncle John's 50th anniversary on 8/3.  I'll add pics as soon as the mood hits for me to upload them to iphotos.  Techology is my friend, technology is my friend!!  lol  I'm leaving here on Thursday, so hopefully the bindings will be done by then!

Happy 2013!

And once again, a considerable amount of time has passed since my last post...  Family update:  another little boy was added to the grandbaby list; Patrick Dennis Thomas was born Jan 8th, 2012, which means he'll be a year old in 4 days!  The Thomas family stayed with us for 4 1/2 months while waiting for housing at Ft Belvoir... they moved there 5 days after Patrick was born.  Steven and Rebecca, Declan and Abigail moved from Ft Meade to Ft Huachuca in November... sure do miss them!  At least we have skype for visits!  We are going to see them in April on our way to Reno for the Women's and National's tournaments.  In my biggest financial blunder that I can recall, I booked our tickets to Las Vegas instead of Reno - OOPS!   Still have to straighten that out!  Mom and Dad came for Christmas; they were going to stay til New Year's, but were too cold!  Thin Florida blood I guess, and they both developed head colds :(  They are moving soon from Arcadia to Punta Gorda, FL, so the next time we visit will be in a new location.  The grandkids are growing up way too fast!  Andrew turned 5 on 12/26 and he's in preschool, Declan will be back in preschool starting next week after their move, Liam is in a preschool program to help with his (lack of) speech.  Cierra can't wait to start school, but enjoys being a princess in the meantime!  Abi is her adorable, sassy self, and Patrick is now crawling.
In the sewing room, I completed a quilt - start to finish - at the Sew'n Sews weekend last March!  I got to use Mary's quilting machine, Dina(saur), which was WAY COOL!  We are going to Gina's this year... can't wait!!  I also made a quilt for Carrie and David.  It took a bit of work to get the colors balanced right and by the time that was accomplished, I had enough pieces left over for another whole queen sized top, and then some!  I also put together some Chinese coin strips that Elena had sewn oh, maybe 10 or so years ago!  I think I'm going to use it for practice quilting on my machine now that I have some nifty tools my Honey got me for Christmas!  I also have Declan's quilt basted and ready for quilting (Mom has slowed down with the hand quilting...having issues with her hands/numbness/aches and pains : /  )  I still have 3 quilts to make to catch up on the grandkids... I really don't have a lot of kid type fabrics... Sharyn suggested r/w/b for her boys, and I will back them with some kind of cute kid flannel print.
We added a new fur-baby in July... Daisy Doodlebug turned 1 year old on New Year's Day  She's a Dorkie (dachshund/yorkie mix - I got her from Debbie)  She and Penny have gotten to be good friends.  It works out well - Penny loves Dennis and Daisy is my little buddy!  Meenu has had a couple bouts of   kidney/bowel issues this past year (comes with age...) and I don't know how much longer she'll be with us.  She's such a sweetheart, but she's at least 14 and these things will not get better with wishful thinking... :(  Wiley and Tanya are still doing well.  Wiley is afraid of the grandkids, so he hides under our bathroom sink when they are here!  Considering he outweighs both dogs, it's pretty funny!
I'm bowling 2x week, on Tuesday nights with Dennis and Thursday mornings in a women's league... I bowled a 220 yesterday!  missed a 500 set by 8 points!  oh well, something to aim for!
We are now attending Horizons Church here in Stafford.  It's much bigger than COTR, but I feel more connected there.  I help in the nursery 1x month, and helped with decorating/undecorating for Christmas.  I've also gone to a couple of women's events, and was asked to teach quilting by a few people.
Dennis and I celebrated our 30th anniversary in June!  I've truly been blessed with a wonderful partner to share life with!

Really?

After 5/five/cinco/cinque/V months!!! Mother Nature decides to drop in.... ARG!!! I really shouldn't complain; in the grand scheme of things, this menopause business has been relatively easy to deal with.  Other than occasional hot flashes and night sweats, I've been pretty much taking it in stride, but I will be so happy to get to the other side of the "change of life".

Another 2 and a half years....

On a whim, I decided to check in on my blog.... turns out I go about 2 and 1/2 years between groups of posts. The last time I posted here, Cierra was the new baby! She's 13 months younger than her brother Andrew Christopher Coombs, who was born Dec 26, 2007. Declan Frederick Alwine will be 3 next week! He was born in Germany on August 2, 2008 and his little sister, Abigail Christina was born March 31, 2010, also in Germany. They now live at Ft Meade, MD, which makes Memere very happy! (Wil)Liam David Thomas will be 2 at the end of October (27th), and he will become a big brother to a baby due at the end of January. They are all soo adorable and we are very blessed! Other additions to the family are the lovely Carrie, who married David in June 2009, and Ashton became "official" when he and Elena married in September 2009.
On the quilting front, we are once again hearing the sound of crickets chirping.... :( I always have such a good time on the Sew n Sew retreats that I feel a sewing let down to be alone - just me and my machine... oh well - there's plenty of fabric and inspiration in my sewing room when the time is right!
In 3 weeks or so, Dennis and I are going to Las Vegas for a bowling tournament - the awesome aspect of this is that it's with our friends Pete and Ilene, whom we haven't seen since our days in Berlin!! Pete was my boss, and he and Ilene were two of the eight people at our wedding (that's including the officiant!) And the week after we get back from that, we'll be heading to the Outer Banks for a family vacation at the beach! Keeping my fingers crossed that all the kids can make it for at least part of the week... Mom and Dad, Ron and Sue, and Lisa and Bob have all been invited to join us, so it should be lots of fun!! The beach house has 8 bedrooms, pool, game room, porches, outdoor putt-putt hot tub, on and on and on!!! and the beach is just across the street!
Well, that's it for now.... we'll see how much time goes by before I post again!

It seems forever since last week.  Had a wonderful time in Indy w/Debbie and Jan, and I'm almost finished the H quilt... working on the borders.  I've got Andrew for a few days, so we'll see if I make any progress!  Hubby and I bowled in the state mixed tournament this weekend.  I didn't bowl all that well, but we had a good time.
Nighty night!

Announcing the arrival of Cierra Marie!

Cierra arrived on 1/30/09 at 12:33p.m. weighing in at 7lb 6 oz., 20 1/2" long.  She's a beautiful baby and is doing great!  She doesn't look too happy to see me in this one.  She's my sweet little cup of tea!

Here are two pics of the Anniversary Quilt.
